Meet the Team

Chris Reid | Founding Partner

Chris was destined to be a lawyer at age 6, when his older brother forced him to sign an unfair “contract” forbidding him from touching the family’s video game floppy disks. Chris now runs a firm dedicated to helping gaming, tech and creative businesses navigate not just bad contracts, but all the legal issues facing a business.

He began his legal career working for the Legal Aid Society, representing low-income tenants in Brooklyn housing court. He then worked several years as an intellectual property law associate with Ropes & Gray LLP, where he represented leading technology, automotive, pharmaceutical, biomedical and software companies on a variety of complex litigation and transactional intellectual property matters.

In early 2013, Chris was inspired by the explosion of indie game development and started his own creative and technology law firm in Brooklyn, New York dedicated to helping gaming, tech and creative businesses navigate modern legal issues. As a gamer himself, his original goal was to provide affordable legal help for developers and games industry professionals. He quickly expanded his services to startup counsel, company formation law, and much more, realizing that creatives and tech companies of all stripes faced similar issues and deserved access to personalized and affordable legal help.

His favorite game of all time is probably the original Marathon, but ask him what he’s playing recently and he’ll be happy to geek out. He prefers a crowdfunding-backer shirt over a suit any day.

Daniel Koburger | Of Counsel

Daniel’s desire to be an attorney was sparked from a young age onward watching his mother’s work in the field of refugee work, which impressed on him the difficulties a legal system can present to people who are alien to it. From his first day at law school he aimed to acquire the tools to direct communities of creatives and idea creators in realizing their ideas without the hassle that legal intrusion can present.

Daniel’s work in the indie game scene derives from his passion for people: their stories, ideas, and their creativity. His credo: Everything must relate back to one’s purpose, and if it doesn’t, drop it. His respect for such purpose fuels his work supporting creatives around the world.

Before attending Cardozo School of Law, Daniel graduated from the L.M.U in Munich and was admitted to the Bar in Bavaria. Stateside, he founded the Cardozo Interactive Entertainment Law Society and spearheaded the cause for video game law on campus. You can still find Daniel rallying others and sparking excitement about video games wherever he goes.

Beyond his passion for games, people and stories, Daniel is the firm's diligent over-thinker. Prior to joining Chris Reid Law, Daniel worked in Munich, Germany for K&E and SKW Schwarz, handling entertainment industry transactional and content issues, including copyright, trademark, personality rights, speech rights, and production deals. His German and EU legal experience is invaluable in supporting the firm's transatlantic clients.

When he isn't drafting contracts, Daniel is a comic collector (his favorite is One Piece), a hip-hop junkie, and a sports fan (FC Bayern). The only thing he plans as precisely as his legal work are his tabletop Shadowrun campaigns.
